Hugs are the Universal Medicine

The Greenway PPG Community Grants Fund have been at it again!

The latest grant issued was for a small book corner with a large friendly lion, in the corner of the library at Little Mead School, for when times get tough. A safe place for when a child is too ill or not able to go outside and play. Instead of looking out the window at others running around the playground, feeling isolated and alone, the child can read to the big friendly lion or give him a big hug! We all know how much difference a hug can make to our day!

He has a couple of little friends too, that keep the big friendly lion company when his human friends aren’t around.

A lesson for us adults; When a friend or family member is dealing with something painful or unpleasant in their lives, give them a hug. Scientists say that giving another person support through touch, this can reduce the stress of the person being comforted. It can even reduce the stress of the person doing the comforting.
